Vote for Landstuhl Hospital Care Project
Our primary mission is to provide quality of life items to military members who have been injured or wounded in Afghanistan & Middle East.
What inspired you to get into the business you are in today?
Many injured military arrive at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) or field hospitals with only the clothing they were wearing when they were removed from the battlefield. During a visit, I saw the Chaplain’s Closet was short on clothing and toiletry items they needed for the patients being sent to the hsoptial from Iraq, Afghanistan & the Middle East. I was inspired and returned home to gather volunteers and donations to help the Chaplains provide items needed for support and morale.
How do you define success for yourself and for your business?
One of our recipients defines our success: “They (Landstuhl Hospital Care Project) provide clothing that gives back the identity of an individual. LHCP provides blue jeans, t-shirts, shoes, socks and sweats. All these comfortable clothes remind us of back home, and not the combat uniform that identifies the incident and pain. Hope and care are provided in these items.” When we help LRMC with Day Trips, patients physically relax and open up as they enjoy a normal day away from the hospital
How would you use the FedEx SMB Grant money to make a significant impact on your business and/or on others?
We would fund Day Trips for the patients recuperating at LRMC. Funding cuts have reduced LRMC’s capability to provide the normal materials support and Day Trips. Trip costs include bus, food and entrance fees. Each trip requires a volunteer medical staff, Chaplain, Licensed Nurse, and escorts for patients in wheelchairs or on crutches. In addition to the Day Trips, we (LHCP) would continue to support the units who contact us with the morale and quality of care items they need.
