Anything that you can send will be welcomed with open hands. Take care and Happy New Year.

I just wanted you to know that I received your package today here in at my deployed location. I will be taking it to the Craig Hospital tomorrow. I will let you know how the items were used…if I can. Were you aware that the hospital here is named the Craig Hospital and that the soldier you sent the package in honor of was Craig too? If I am not mistaken the hospital was named for the soldier…is that a coincidence or purposeful? Just wondering. I am going to take my camera to the hospital tomorrow and take some pics for your organization! Thanks for being so thoughtful and what a wonderful program. I’ll be in touch soon!

We got your first shipment of stuff to us that included sweat suits, pillows, socks and flip flops. It is MUCH appreciated. It is still cold here in the mountains, and this will help us greatly in keeping patients warm when we transport them by helicopter after we have worked on them.

The candy and mints were a great bonus!

We would love to have some flip flops and ankle socks. Is there any way

we can get anymore sweats in sizes large and extra large. The reason I ask is because when we send our active duty on the medavac the airplane is really cold for them. If there is anything you can do please let me know.

Thank you so much for all that you have already done for us. We received the shipment of towels yesterday and were really excited. We also received more pillows for our wounded.

Once again thank you from all of us here…

Karen,

I can not begin to thank you enough for what you have done. I have received 3 boxes from you. I am at Mxx which is in Kxxx. We are the gateway to Afghanistan. Everyone comes through here. I have received the boxes of pillows and just last night we sent out a patient on aerovac with one of your pillows. I redistribute all the things you send me to our patients, staff and all the transients going into Afghanistan. You and your organization has touched many of lives here. I wish there was a way I could thank you appropriately. I wish more Americans were just like you. Can you clone you? Ha ha

My staff here at the Medical Group cheer when I get a package from you. We only have a few beds in our inpatient facility however thanks to you and your organization, they have awesome pillows, towels, toothbrushes, PJs, etc… I hope God gives you some of the joy you have brought to others.

It is my honor to serve over here defending your freedom and protecting your way of life. Just tonight at our staff meeting I arranged to take a group photo just for you next week. That is how much you have meant to us.

Thank you for being who you are and all you do.

Thank you again for being such an inspiration. I would love to meet you one day. Thank you for making mine and the sooooo many Airmen, Soldiers, and Marines day, week, month and deployment! God bless you!

Monday 9 Mar 2009 (Snail Mail)

Dear Karen,

I hope this letter reaches you in good health and great spirits! Thank you for your kindness and thoughtfulness through sending us a care package. I distributed the pillows to my fellow medics, our patients and all the military members who are serving in Operation Enduring Freedom our Global War on Terrorism (GWOT).

I am a medic stationed at xxxxx Air Base which was the 1st base established in the GWOT. After the cowardly attacks on Sept 11, 2001 they opened this base in Nov 01 to launch the GWOT. It is now the “Gateway to Afghanistan”. We are a small hospital treating Airmen, Soldiers, Marines and Coalition Forces who are stationed here or passing through. We are stationed in the xxxx; by the capital city of xxx which is north of xxx. There are over 700,000 people that live in the city and country side. They are a very poor nation and their average stand of living is below the poorest of American citizens.

In addition to fighting the GWOT we are also great American ambassadors to xxx. Every week we take trips to the local schools, orphanages and remote villages to do improvement projects and help where we can. Seeing their faces in person would break your heart, but they light-up every time we arrive as they run to greet us “the Americans are here!” Tons of donations have come from our military families and churches in the United States.

xxxx Air Base, was originally called xx who was killed in the September 11th terrorist attack. He was considered to be one of September 11th greatest heroes and his stor is inspiring. The recreation center here on base is called “Pete’s Place” in his honor. His image and story adorn the walls, and his courageous acts of self-sacrifice are relayed to all personnel who base through this base.

It is a great honor to serve in the military to defend your freedom and protect your way of life. We are so grateful for your encouragement and appreciation. Thank you for your care packages; it truly made a difference. I wish all Americans were just like you. We value your patriotism and thank your support. Thank you for being who you are and all you do.

With sincerest appreciation and gratitude,
Capt SM and the men and woman of the xx

I received the blankets and sweatpants you sent and wanted to let you know how appreciative we are here in Kuwait. Many Soldiers/Sailors/Marines have and will benefit from your gracious gifts.

We have a little closet established that we place all of the items that are sent to us, and it is accessible to all of our patients.

Thank you for your generosity. The story on the package about the Sailor that it was sent in honor of was very touching, and I am sure that his family is appreciative over the fact that he is not forgotten in all of our hearts for his ultimate sacrifice.

Hello Mrs. Seljeskog. My name is Carol Millner. I believe my husband and I have a blanket you made for the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project.

I cannot thank you enough for the blanket. It really touched us deeply. I arrived with very little, and when David was getting better, a nurse mentioned the Wounded Warrior Closet for me to visit, there I would be able to pick up a few things for David.

That is where I was given the blanket you made. It has and will continue to give us comfort. Thank you for your time, your support, kindness, and thoughtfulness.

Walking into the Chaplin’s office where the closet is located and seeing so many items that people made or donated was such a beautiful sight, it really made me feel so proud to be an American, and so proud of my fellow Americans.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

With a grateful heart,
Carol Millner,

I would also like to thank you for all the items you have set us thus far for the morale care of our patients. The blankets, sweats, sandals, t-shirts, and clogs have come into great use and the whole Charlie MED team here really does appreciate the help.

Karen we received some more boxes from your organization yesterday. I am blown away with your generosity. Our Aerovac patients all get a pillow and now a blanket thanks to you. We also had a picnic here for all the forward deployers and we gave away lots of the goodies you sent us. I wish you could have seen how appreciative they were. You truly have touched many lives and made lots of military members feel special, remembered and appreciated. Thank you again for all you do.

You are an amazing person. Hope you have a wonderful day. Thank you for making all of our days brighter.

Sincerely,

Karen,

We had received the t-shirts and bottoms for recovering patients, and we thank you very much. If it isn’t too much to send some more, over the past couple weeks we have received a few more casualties than we would have liked. All sizes needed.

Thank you very much,

Eric

Karen,

I just received the three boxes of shorts– thank you so much!! I know that my post-surgical patient will like being able to have shorts to put on instead of having to put their uniform pants on just to walk to the bathroom! Thanks again for your help!! I am not sure if I thanked you for the box before this shipment– the towels and sweatshirts/t-shirts were great and manypatients benefited (and will benefit) from them!

Very Respectfully,

Good Morning!

I got the two packages you sent! Thank you so much for the shirts and pants and other supplies. We needed them and greatly appreciate them!!

We have a good amount of flip-flops, but the pile is dwindling… So we may need some, but not a lot; send them to places that need more first, and if there are some left over, send tous.

Thank you so much!!!

Very Respectfully,

Everyone loves the snacks, the hand sanitizers, toiletries, please continue with those.

We could use some immunization boosters like Airborne or alka-seltzer plus those are great at keeping people healthy here.

Everything you send I put out there and it is gone a day or 2.

You are an amazing person for doing all this. I know it must be very time consuming. I will ensure everyone at my home station will know your CFC# when it rolls around next time.

Thank you again for all of this. We hung up the cards from kids that came in your package today.

Take care and God Bless

We got the scrub hats and SSG Stxx was smiling from ear to ear. Thanks!

Please pass our appreciation to the ladies who make all the scrub hats. It adds a little sense of fun and personality to the room when we are preparing for a trauma or doing a surgery, waiting to see which scrub hats will show up on our fellow team members heads.

Sometimes it is the smallest things.

Ma’am,

We received your shipment of sweats and pillows which were put to great use as many of our active duty people travel your way with them. We thank you for all your effort and support. This month the only thing that we need more of is towels. We never have towels and have resorted to using bed linen as towels. If you have any gowns that would also be helpful.

Once again, thank you.

Sincerely,
Lt S

Ms. Grimord and LHCP

I don’t know how you do it but non the less I mention we ran out of sheets and you managed to send enough for the Army in days. There is a special place in heaven for people like you. We had just about run out of sheets when your boxes arrived. Some how our laundry facility holds on to them for almost a week and a half. We are certainly set for the next few months.

I hope this card finds you in good spirits and good health. I have been asked by several people to start a newsletter. If this interest you please let me know. I will probably start a webpage to include photos as I have yet to find a photo shop to develop my pictures. I would be interested in knowing more about your organization. When I get back from my deployment I’d like to get involved with care packages and donations to troops.

Take care and thank you again for your support.

Karen, Well I got my workout in today carrying all the boxes from the connex. WOW! We really appreciate all the donations and items that you sent. When I went home on leave I asked my supply sergeant to put my “mail” in a connex. He was happy to see me come back and get all the blankets, pillows, sheets out to the different FOB’s for use, he was running short on space. Thank you and your team so much. It was like Christmas Day all over again opening all the boxes.

Thanks again for all you have done for us here in Afghanistan and our pts.

Take Care,
Maj

Karen,

I just can’t thank you enough for what you have done while I have been here!! You have touched so many lives and helped so many Soldiers I wouldn’t even know where to start. I have never known anyone or any group of people that helps Soldiers like you. I’ve never known a group to listen to what we need, and answer those requests.

Karen and LHCP, THANK YOU! We greatly appreciate it!!

On behalf of my staff thank you so much.

We really appreciate all the support that you guys have given present and past.

These items will be given to the Intensive Care Ward and the Intensive Care Unit to be given to the patients in our hospital.

I will personally be responsible for these items getting to these areas.  The patients here will be more than happy to receive these items, I am sure about that.  Sometimes they come here with bare minimum.

Whatever can’t be of use in those areas will be sent to the appropriate area so that it can be used.

Again I want to say thanks for supporting the xxth Combat Support Hospital.  I will be getting you a list of what we could use in the future.
