The
Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members
of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent
Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review,
been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis
that they meet the highest standards of public accountability,
program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards
include those required by the US Government for inclusion in the
Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in
the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United
States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent,
meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have
been awarded this
Seal.

The MTBI Clinic received badly needed treats, hygiene products
and DVDs. The patients will most definitely appreciate these. I
wanted to take this time to let you know my RIP-time (return to
CONUS-USA) is mid
Feb 2011. My Replacement is CPT xxx (Officer in Charge)
and she should be BOGs (boots on ground) about the
16 Feb 2011. I will insure she has your contact, as your
organization has been a life-line to our operations...I wish
they would give you-all a commission, send you-all orders to
this FOB and keep you near us so that we could get what is
needed faster.
Once again, thanks for what you do...

Carolinas HealthCare System
forward the below reference to LHCP. They received it from
an
anesthesiologist deployed to a Combat
Support Hospital in Afghanistan.
Thanks so much for your support and your
email! Mr. xx told me of your donation to the USO. That
was a terrific gesture! I use the USO frequently. The branch
at Charlotte/Douglas is, by far, the best one I've visited.
Most of the others are badly in need of repair and updating.
Your donation will be put to good use, I'm sure.
Regarding the "adopt a troop" plan, the members of my unit and
myself have MORE than enough supplies, snacks, toiletries,
clothing items, etc. than we could use in a year! Through
forwarded emails, people have received our address and we get
daily boxes of items that supporters have mailed. It is sad to
say, but much of it goes unused. We give it to the chaplains to
distribute to the soldiers downrange from us, but even they have
more than they need.
I have a much better idea, I think. There is an organization
called the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project, run by a group of
citizens in Virginia. Their website is full of information (www.landstuhlhospitalcareproject.org).
They are in constant contact with our Forward Surgical Team, all
deployed Combat Support Hospitals, Landstuhl Regional Medical
Center, Walter Reed, and others. When a soldier becomes injured
on the battlefield, they are immediately taken by helicopter to
us. We cut his clothing off, operate on him, and evacuate him
out to Bagram Airfield. They may do further surgery before
sending him to
Germany. This continues until he is home, and happens in
a matter of hours to a few days. His personal effects are sent
from
Afghanistan, but he may not see his belongings for
several weeks. This is where the LH Care Project comes in. We
give him brand new clothing, toiletries, blankets, personal
letters from US citizens, etc. right here in the FST before he
gets on the helicopter for BAF. When we run low on items, our
representative notifies the LHCP folks in Virginia, and they
send us what we need. Their website is updated almost daily, I
believe, with what they are running short on, so that citizens
and organizations such as CHS can donate what is needed.
I can't think of a better way for CHS to show support for us
over here. It means so much to the soldiers who are suddenly
torn from their unit and friends to know how much sincere
support exists in the form of comforts from home. The beauty of
this organization is that nothing is wasted. What is donated is
exactly what is needed. If you go to the website and contact
them, I believe a great relationship can be made with CHS. I
have heard that they will accept medical supplies, as well. The
Army is pretty good at giving us what we need to get the job
done, but it sometimes takes weeks to get our supplies.
Thanks again for the sincere love and support that I get from
CHS and my fellow employees. I can feel the love every day!
Because of my employer's support for my family and me, I can
concentrate on my mission here. I am a better soldier because I
work for CHS!
Sincerely,
COL

Dear,
Dear Landstuhl Hospital Care Project,
What
can I possible say to you great Patriots? I opened your latest
huge box in front of my entire staff of Urgent Care. Immediately
our people
ran over literally screaming in delight to find all the
wonderful ornaments and Christmas stockings and goodies you sent
to us! We distributed them throughout the hospital.
I will ATTEMPT to
send you pictures of all the stockings all decorating the entire
facility! Each
department is sending an individual thank you card for all that
you have done for us. I just could not wait to thank you through
snail mail!

We
are in receipt of beautiful handmade stockings which were
obviously lovingly crafted by people of your organization. I
have sent cards and a thank you letter along with the attempt to
send multiple pictures of your stockings hung all over the
hospital. We adore them. They were so very thoughtful and
literally "made" our Christmas! Christmas Day every
staff member and patient will be given a stocking. This is after
they have been displayed for a few weeks. These stocking are so
precious I am MOST certain they will be sent home for future
Christmases. I already know the one I will be sending home and
every year I pull it out I will remember my Christmas in
Afghanistan
and the thoughtfulness of the
people of the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project. I know everyone
else is doing the same. The caliber and quality of these
stockings dictate they be cherished. If you would like us to
send them back, we can certainly do that with most of them. We
have distributed a few already to our patients and as you know,
they are the wounded.
Fondly,

We
receive our warriors straight from the battlefield. Hence we see
the most severely injured human beings imaginable. Once they are
stabled through our trauma bay, surgery, and into our Intensive
Care Unit, the Air Force with their specialized teams of
doctors, nurses, and medics gets them to
Germany. Our motto is, "Best Care Anywhere" and it really
is the truth! We have the best nursing staff, the most talented
physicians and providers. If our guys can get to us they have a
98% chance of surviving and I've seen some pretty bad injuries.
Our new hospital with its new equipment rivals anything we have
at home. No trauma center in the states have anything on us! We
are devoted to our patients and dedicated to our mission.

Hello Ms. Grimord,
I am currently deployed in
xx, Afghanistan, serving as a General Dentist for the xx
Role 2. We received the donated dental hygiene supplies sent in
honor of USAF SSG Timothy L. Bowles, by the Landstuhl Hospital
Care Project and I would like to thank you and the project
volunteers for taking the time to gather and send the
toothbrushes and toothpaste samples. These items will be
distributed to local Afghan women and children at the
Kandahar Regional Military Hospital, and used to
demonstrate oral hygiene procedures as part of a preventive oral
health initiative being led by HM1 L and SPC M.
Thank you again for your time and generosity, we greatly
appreciate it!

I am
sure that a great many soldiers (and providers) in the field
take the time to thank you and all the volunteers for their
efforts in
getting "badly needed" things/supplies out here in Afghanistan.
I would, however, like to personally thank you and LHCP for
assisting us in our effort to get our injured soldiers healthy
and return them back to their respective units.
With that "insight" that you have and the knowledge that
anything whether small or large is greatly appreciated, makes
us, out here,
better appreciate why you are so generous. Start-up supplies for
a clinic can take weeks or months when using the standard
military
procurement system. The logistical foot-print in
Afghanistan
is huge because there is no infrastructure to speak of and
everything must be flown in or trucked in by way of
Pakistan
(*were a lot of cargo theft occurs). It goes without saying,
that individuals who have seen
first-hand and had to deal with similar issues are the ones who
typically understand our plight all too-well.
I am a humble provider in charge of a small m-TBI Clinic (mild
traumatic brain injury) and have been able to return more than
200 soldiers to
their respective units and this allows them to continue
hunting-down the really bad guys who kill and maim our
green-suitors, as well as
civilians. Your supplies makes their short stay in our clinic
more comfortable and bearable; and I would therefore argue, that
your supplies make a positive impact in their hectic-lives.
I have sent two pictures of the clinic where we work out of, and
of course that-guy in the picture is me.
Thanks for all that your do and your efforts are never
forgotten...

Dear Karen
Grimord and Landstuhl Hospital Care Project,
Hello, I am Maj
xx, an Orthopedic Surgeon currently deployed to Afghanistan.
I am with the xxth Forward Surgical Team out of Miesau,
Germany. My unit is split between two different areas
and thus there are only 7 of us here on this Camp. We
are the medical unit supporting troops, currently, from the x
CAB out of Ft. Hood, TX and 1/10 MTN out of Ft. Drum, NY, not
to mention our brothers and sisters in NATO.
(Paragraph
removed for brevity)
We needed travel
size toiletries, t-shirts, boxers, socks, et. and last
week we began to receive so many items. It is just
great! I want to personally THANK YOU for answering the
call to help and going above and beyond by sending towels,
razors, toothpaste, wet wipes, sheets, and blankets.
My unit was
overwhelmed by the support that one small request generated.
We are integrated into a NATO hospital and our coalition
forces comrades were and always are amazed at the support we
get from home. In times like these it is good to show
everyone else that we are all in this together.
I apologize for
the delay in getting this thank you letter to you. Our
outgoing mail comes about every 2 months. Hopefully, you
understand.
Thank you again
for all that you have done and please know that your efforts
will make our efforts that much better. You can
guarantee that a soldier will benefit greatly from your
graciousness. We will continue to pray for you as you
are doing for us!

Hi! I know you all are probably getting
crazy busy what with all of the Holidays coming up...you are
Angels! I wanted to give you a huge ALOHA and MAHALO (thank you)
for the boxes of travel pillows you sent to us here at xxx! The
guys loooved them! They were in such wonderful, cheery patterns
and the perfect size!
We man checkpoints where guys rotate in
and out every 4-5 days and they have very austere conditions
there...basically baby wipe baths or a bucket....pee tubes and
they are still doing the whole "burn the trash and bathroom
waste thing".
They work long hard hours and the
pillows make a great accessory to them...they can strap it to
their assault packs and have a nice squishy pillow, instead of
doing what a lot of them had been doing...balling up their extra
clothes they bring and shoving them into a laundry bag or
waterproof bag.
The designs were terrific ladies! The dice, the army prints,
flames in a hotrod print...all 3 boxes got divvied up to the
different troops (which is a company in Cavalry jargon). Of
course, there was not enough for everyone unfortunately...but
for the ones who did score a pillow- man they were pleased!
Thank you for all you do...and please
know that your generosity, hard work and thoughtfulness is truly
appreciated :-) You keep us motivated!
Love,
M

Our
Dear Friends
We
are so appreciative of your many, many gifts and once again our
soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors of the United States and
fellow Coalition and Special Forces, and the nurses, doctors,
and corpsmen need and love everything. The razors will be
used to shave chests for EKG analysis. The q-tips are
always appreciated by all and the Gray Tee shirts will be worn
by our wounded warriors as they travel back home to receive
further care. The boxes of chuxs are always needed and as
I have stated before are of better quality than the ones supply
gives us.
Tooth brushes and paste were dropped off in front of Dental and
almost immediately taken by our soldiers stopping by for care.
As
always, we are keenly aware of the financial sacrifice, time,
and effort expended by you fantastic people and feel as though
you have been a true partner in the healing process for our
warriors. We are forever grateful.
Most Sincerely,

I
thank God for your love and caring support during this time of
war, separating many Servicemen and women from their families,
their normal lifestyle and familiarity. This is my third
deployment, second time in combat and SSG R's fourth in
combat. It is very encouraging and "God sent" seeing the
faithfulness and loving you have for us. It truly means
a great deal. Without your support many of our folks would
lose heart. It actually gives Soldiers strength and
encouragement. With your sacrifice of time, giving and
thru your diligent prayers, we feel our sacrifice is worth it
all.
We
are in the sixth month of our deployment here is Afghanistan.
As we look back SSG R and I have traveled to xx and xx
visiting and ministering to Soldiers and Unit Ministry Teams
who we support. We have four outstanding teams who
really care for morale and spiritual needs of each Soldier.
As we strive for victory of those who attacked our homeland,
our Servicemen fight a long side the our NATO friends to
prevent the insurgents of taking a land, homes, families,
peace and freedom from the people of Afghanistan. In war
Warriors go thru various stages of emotions from high energy
excitement to feelings of depression. As you are well
aware, war takes a toll on serviceman, families and those who
live in this country. We look forward each day seeing
packages and letters come in fro the Troops. It's like
Christmas. They are excited to see what goodies are in
the package. We even push them out to Soldiers on other
FOBs who don't have a PX.
Thank you!!!

Our Dear Friends,
Again and Again and on behalf of all our soldiers, marines,
airmen and sailors of the United States and fellow Coalition and
Special Forces, and the nurses, doctors, and corpsmen that care
for them, I wish to extend our most sincere gratitude for the
most recent gifts you wonderful Americans have
bestowed upon us. I cannot fully express to you what it
has been like to be on the receiving end of your generosity.
Everything you have mailed to us has been a Godsend! These gifts
are invaluable to the care of our patients.
Most appreciated are the linens, sparking white and the white
blankets. The DOD supplies us with such items but we seem
not to have a way to properly clean them for use in a hospital
therefore needing to discard at a high rate. The chux you
send us is often used for this purpose also. The quality
of chux is more superior to that we are given. The snacks
have been used as meals and the toothbrushes and backpacks are
distributed to our patients and are much appreciated indeed.
The high quality footwear you have given us in the last "haul"
was also greatly appreciated.
We
are keenly aware of the financial sacrifice, time, and effort
expended by you fantastic people and feel as though you have
been a true partner in the haling process for our warriors.

First, I would like to apologize for taking so long in writing
you back. I have received all your packages in good order.
We have been able to provide several soldiers with items from
your organization. This truly is a good feeling to see
their faces when they receive items they need. The Spanish
has also been able to make use of your donations. I know I
have requested sheets, gowns huge chux, flip flops, and much
more, we are using all of it. Just to say thanks
again the guys that have had to make it this way enjoy watching
movies on the players you sent. This really helps with
getting them just some relaxation really. Offering them
shirts and PJs after they shower also does wonders. Some
of these guys haven't been able to shower or get good nights
sleep until they come here for whatever reason. I had
tried to send you the photo of our current group but the file
was too big. I am trying to make it smaller and will try
to resend. I did receive the latest shipment of sheets.
Thank you so much. As we are making contact with the next
unit relieving us in a few months I will make sure to pass on
your information should they need anything.
We
are counting down the months. Thanks again for all your
support with both our unit and the 2E.

Karen (sis)
Thank you so much for the great care boxes for the Soldiers
here! The soap is very much appreciated- we don't have access to
a PX here (we had a traveling one 1 time so far) at xx and the
guys are back an forth to VERY primitive checkpoints for days at
a time so having a nice fresh bar of Zest (or Dove or Ivory)
should be a treat! And the washrags too...super idea
ladies....the laundry services can be a little rough on
things....the pinks and lavenders ought to go over great...hehehehe.
The pillows are awesome...so pretty and
so very special, please pass my thanks along to the awesome
ladies in the SOL group...Although I am not in a CSH and handing
them out to injured Service members...please know they are going
to very good use by the guys here...perfect size to stuff in
their bags to go out to the COP's and CP's...and all the guys
commented on how good they smell (must be the soap bars in the
packing box ). same goes for the shower clogs....we have no way
to replace ones that bust or disappear (very easily b/c there is
no store on the FOB.
I thank you from the bottom of my
heart...LHCP has supported me and my Units through all 3 of my
deployments....It feels so good to know there are folks back
home who care about us and support us...we do what we do even
better because of the support we receive from you.
And Karen, thank you for being my
friend, my Sis, and for listening to me when I was
struggling....
With Love and Gratitude,
M
PS- Did you know that on your LHCP troop letters tab in the 2007
group...there is a photo I sent you that has CPT Maria Ortiz in
it? She is the Army Nurse killed by IDF attack in
Baghdad (Ibn Sina Hospital, 28th CSH). is a photo of her
and 2 other nurses I think they are holding up sheets or
pillows. Just thought you may want to know....she was a great
person and such a caring Nurse.

Attached are a few random pictures. One
is of a boy about 5 years old, who was ran over by a
tractor. He is doing very well, but I thought you should know
that it is a LHCP blanket, pillow, and sheet that he is using.
The other pictures
are of one of our surgeons and anesthetists opening up two
much anticipated boxes of sheets from you. As a side note, we
really appreciate the accounts of soldiers included on the
address label. They are truly touching. One of our surgeons
actually knew of one of the soldiers mentioned on one of the
packages he opened, that of a soldier killed in Iraq on
Christmas day.
We really
appreciate your kindness and generosity. We would not be able
to complete our mission without your help. Thank you, from
the bottom of our hearts.

They were immediately put to use. I would say that patient robes
are a consistent need.
Rest assured you efforts are greatly
appreciated as all of our staff and patients benefit from the
goods you send.
Thanks and keep in touch.

I
know how time consuming it is to clip, cut, and send out the

your hard work and efforts to provide World Class Customer

When
we receive the coupons, we have some employees prepackage them
in sandwich zip lock bags and leave them for our Patrons to take

I, myself who is a military spouse take advantage of the coupons

The

Dear
Karen and the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project folks,
Thank you so much for the wonderful package! We are
already planning when/where to put the decorations! The
guys & gals will love them! I will try to take photos when we
do.
The Army bags are awesome (LHCP SoL project) and we will use
them for our troops that we send on critical care missions.
They always have so many records & medications to be taken with
them, these will be great, and the guys will have them when they
get home & know that someone cared for them while they were
being cared for. Thank you so much.
When we get boxes like these I always let the airman that don't
get much mail open them, thereby spreading the enjoyment of
boxes even further.
Thank you for all you do. Our troops over here are simply
amazing, and it is an honor to care for them, and know the folks
back home understand & support us & them.
Sincerely,
Maj, USAF, NC

Mrs. Karen Grimord,
Just writing to thank you and your team for the package of
blankets, pillows, and hygiene products. I have signed out the
DVD player to the NCO in charge of the MEDICS supporting the
logistical convoys that leave KAF. They are gone many days at a
time, and often sleep in their vehicles, so having a DVD player
in the truck will definitely help time pass by.
We are inspired by the story of MAJ Pryor, and has given us a
new appreciation for being an American citizen and all the
liberties we have.
Thanks -again for your support of our AID STATION. They are
much appreciated, and have been already dispersed to our

Dear
Karen
Landstuhl Hospital Care Project
Hello Karen, I hope that my letter made it to you and you were
able to see finally who we are. Although we are a very
diverse group as you can see from our picture we all work very
well as a team. It would seem that the language would be a
barrier, but when it comes to taking care of those coming in we
are all tracking.
Today I received your package
containing the slippers. The box with the tee's and pjs
brought a big smile to me as we didn't have a lot to offer for
those needing a change of clothing. The guys will love the
prints once they see them. I an not thank you enough for
all the support you have given us and for the guys. That
was very generous of your organization. Not to mention
about a week or so we also received the blankets and sheets.
I do believe that we are good to go for now.
Well, Karen I will keep a look out for your emails and or if we
come to find out that we are in need of any other items.
Thank you once again and God bless you and your crew.
Sincerely,
SSG GF |

Good to hear from you. Sorry I have not written to thank you for
the DVD players, and just recently the shirts and socks. We have
received all of you boxes in good order. We can not thank you
enough for all your support. I will send you an updated group
picture, not sure if I told you but the Spanish rotations are
from two to four months so just imagine we have taken two so
far.
I
do have another few requests if its possible? Our laundry
service here is not like the service for a regular hospital,
they wash all of the camps laundry together. So if the hospital
linen is badly soiled or stained they throw it out. This has
become an issue for us in maintaining our levels for flat sheets
and the gowns you sent us.
Do
you think you can come across more gowns and or lots of flat
sheets. Again thank you so much to your team and to you
in supporting us out here. |

Mrs. Karen Grimord,
Once again, thank you
for sending the phone cards. Yesterday, I went to the AT&T
Calling place, and there was a LONG waiting line!!! It was the
first time I had to wait in line, too. But, guess what cards
they were using? The blue international calling cards you
donated us!!! It was a happy evening.
Very Respectfully,
CPT xxx
Mrs Karen Grimord,
Thank you for the calling cards. We received it today. The
xxth ID is being replaced by a new unit, the xxxst. I gave
majority of the calling cards to xxxth Charlie Company, Medical
Platoon Sergeant. She will distribute it amongst the lower
enlisted first.
The rest of the calling cards, I will distribute it with our
chaplain services. We will keep a few for the incoming FST.
Our FST is redeploying in
May 2010. Therefore, I'm sure the in-coming FST will
enjoy them, as well.
We, the xxth FST, appreciate all your support.
Very Respectfully,

13 March 2010 Snail Mail
Dear
Karen,
First let me introduce myself; I
am currently deployed to Afghanistan working at a Role 2
facility on a NATO camp with xx other soldiers from my home
unit. We are working side by side with Spanish and
Bulgarian forces. Its been challenging for most of us but
we are making the best of it. We all provide excellent
care but our ways of doing things may differ a little as well as
their supplies. Just to say now that the items I received
from you have made such a difference. We were using paper
gowns/scrubs as patient's pj's. Short on sheets and
towels. The blankets were nice for those having to go back
to their home unit for further care. Now we don't have to
worry about that. The Hospital Commander was very
impressed and thankful.
A
little information about us; we are from the xx CSH, xx,
TX. We are all active duty, our trades here consist of lab
tech, radiology tech, dental tech, medics, LPN's, RN's, RT, OR
tech, providers/Docs, PAD and commo. We are here for the year.
The Spanish forces have about the same numbers for staff, and
the Bulgarian team is only surgical.
I
hate to be a bother but will keep you posted with any other wish
like items we may need out here. There is nothing I can
really say at this time for you to understand how much your
shipment has meant to this facility. All I can say and
give is a very sincere thank you to you and your staff.
Sincerely
SSG, USA
